Salmon fishing in Alaska

Alaska is famous as one of the most abundant areas with salmon, and is perfect for fishing trips.  It is because of intense tides along the West Coast and the stream of ocean currents that generate an environment idyllic for thousands of thriving bait fish. It is also popular as one of the most excellent places to go if an individual desires to fish for giant King Salmon, the largest kind of salmon fish. The most wanted species of salmon are:
1. The King Salmon known as Chinook are the biggest of all these species.  It weights around 20-40 pounds, the heaviest registered of which is 112 pounds, and its length is as long as 3-4″.  Its back is usually blue-green and slightly spotted.
The typical life span of a Chinook Salmon is around 5 to 7 years.
Its flesh can vary in color from ivory white to a deep red. Ordinary names for this kind of salmon include springs, tyee, mouth/kings quinnat and tule.

2. Silver Salmon known as Coho is slightly lesser with a typical weight of 8-12 pounds. This type prefers small streams and spawns between the months of July to November.
3. Sockeye salmons are the most wanted of its entire species as its flesh carries a color of deep red and can be of a firm rich flavor.

When fishing for salmon in Alaska, you have to be well equipped with the right fishing gear and wear the appropriate apparel. Below is a list of some of the required equipment/materials and tips for comfortable fishing:
1. You have to be clad in coats of warm clothes not really the bulky ones as it can hamper the fishing activity.

3. Fleet or cruisers which provide services for fishing are regularly stockpiled with bait.
